Talk about miracles!
I just got back from an astounding trip to Mexico City and the mountains surrounding where, amongst many other fabulous things, there are several sanctuaries protecting the Monarch Butterflies who hang out there as part of their migrational situation.
Now, I mean, who doesn't love a butterfly? And who isn't fully flabbergasted by the whole I-used-to-be-wormy-then-I-ensconced-myself-in-this-magic-crysalis-and-now-I'm-all-beautiful-AND-I-can-fly thing?
Not me, that's fer frikken sure.
I learned so many fascinating things (Native Milkweed people! Plant it!) and was particularly blown away by their proclivity for clustering.
Basically, hundreds and thousands of butterflies cling to one another in the branches and form these podlike clumps in the trees.
They gather together for warmth, safety from predators and probably some excellent conversation. Then, once the sun appears and starts heating up their wings, they take flight! Thousands and thousands of them! All at once! HFS!
They fly around, stretching their wings and getting their pollinating on and, in the process, turn the place into a full-blown magical fairyland! It was utterly otherworldly, the stuff of going through the looking glass. Mah tiny mind was totally blown, I've never seen anything like it (and I've done me some hallucinogens, m'kay?)
Seeing these butterflies come together to gather the strength to take flight got me thinking about how we, as humans, have lost sight of how important our own communing is.
Our definition of "making it" is often being able to afford the gated house alone on the hill, private vs. public everything, needing = weak/independence = strong, solitude = success, etcetera etcetera etcetera.
These days I keep hearing from people that they don't know what to "do," and I'm going to urge all of us to start forming stronger and deeper bonds with one another.
Here's what I'ma do and what I suggest for you:
• Reach out more often to people you tend to take for granted
• Chat up the person in line next to you
• Invite inspiring people over for a lasagna
• Join that book club/yoga class/hiking group you've been talking about joining forever
• Notice the eye color of everyone you pass on the street
• Chat up your waiter/waitress
• Keep your damn phone in your pocket when you're out and about (or, gasp, leave it at home!)
• Look at the sky, often, and remember you're an earthling on earth
• Chat up the person next to you at a concert
• Accept more invitations
• Live each day like it's your last
• Get fully badass at listening, having compassion, helping however you can
• Choose love, always choose love
I'm also going to host another group coaching program. I was honestly going to take this year off to focus on writing a book, but I got the undeniable urge to COMMUNE so it is ON people!
Not only does putting on my coaching hat up my game and raise my frequency more than pretty much anything, but being part of a badass posse makes me feel like I can flip over a Buick.
Remember: We all have to put the oxygen mask on ourselves before we can help others with theirs.
Want to come together with some of the most inspiring people here on god's butterfly-filled earth and up YOUR game? Reserve your spot HERE.
